Delphi relies on QNX for autonomous driving
Delphi Automotive has announced to cooperate with Blackberry to be able to offer an appropriate operating system for its developments in the area of autonomous driving systems.

The aim of the collaboration between Delphi and Blackberry is to strengthen the software performance and functional security of their operating system in order to advance autonomous driving technology.

Delphi plans to launch a fully integrated solution for autonomous driving, CSLP (Centralized Sensing Localization and Planning), in 2019. It is intended to offer automobile manufacturers and suppliers in the field of Automated Mobility on Demand (AMoD) a ready-to-use solution for autonomous driving. The Blackberry QNX OS for Safety is designed to help improve the performance and functional security of the software algorithms and middleware of Delphi’s Ottomatika platform.

BlackBerry QNX will provide the software infrastructure for CSLP and help to further develop Delphi's autonomous driving system”, said Glen De Vos, Delphi Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. "The functional safety of high-performance computer systems is of central importance for a production-ready autonomous drive solution."

“There is no functional safety without security against unauthorized access from outside”, comments John Wall, SVP and GM of Blackberry QNX. Cyber attacks and other threats to networked vehicles are on the increase. It is therefore imperative that car manufacturers receive safety-certified and reliable software.


QNX SDP 7.0 provides advanced, high-performance kernel-level security with a range of features including microkernel architecture, file encryption, adaptive time partitioning, a high availability framework, anomaly detection, and multi-level policy-based access control. The BlackBerry QNX operating system is designed to protect against system malfunctions, malware and cyber attacks by implementing a multi-level policy-based security model. The OS security architecture complies with ISO 26262 ASIL D, the highest possible security level for cars.
