MEMS inertial module targets demanding AR, VR and tracking applications
Designed for performance-focused gaming, industrial and sports applications, the LSM6DSR inertial module from STMicroelectronics combines high stability with advanced digital features, low power consumption and small dimensions for head-mounted displays, wearable trackers, smartphones, robots and drones.

The LSM6DSR MEMS system-in-package includes a 3-axis acceleration sensor and a 3-axis gyroscope with a dedicated extended full-range 4,000°/s rotation rate range for high-speed gaming and sports applications. The LSM6DSR is compatible with major mobile operating systems and supports S4S (Synchronization for Sensors). It also offers compatibility with popular mobile platforms and offers real, virtual and batch sensing, with a 9 KByte FIFO memory with compression for dynamic data batching.

The LSM6DSR also enables the implementation of Augmented Reality (AR) capabilities on smartphones to provide a more compelling virtual reality experience in gaming and professional applications. Native pedometer, step detector and pedometer functions as well as the detection of significant movements and inclinations are the basis for precise and efficient activity detection. The LSM6DSR is also suitable for use in sensor hub and IoT devices, for indoor navigation and for optical image stabilization (OIS) in drone cameras.

The required stability is ensured by the improved mechanical design, which minimizes bias and offset drift as well as temperature-related parameter changes. The resulting long-term stability eliminates the need for the host system to perform lengthy recalibrations, which in turn reduces power consumption and maximizes application performance.

The LSM6DSR is already in series production. The device is available in a 2.5 mm x 3 mm x 0.83 mm LGA plastic housing with 14 pins at prices starting at 3 US dollars (from 1,000 units).
