ML startup gains $100 million investment from Toyota

Preferred Networks (PFN) said it would allocate new shares to Toyota, which would become the largest external shareholder in the company. PFN and Toyota started the joint research and development in October 2014, and Toyota invested 1.0 billion yen in PFN in December 2015 to strengthen the relationship.

PFN advocates edge-heavy computing organized in a distributed and collaborative manner as a way to handle the enormous amount of data generated by devices. It has three areas of business focus transportation system, manufacturing industry, and biology/healthcare.
