UK open autonomous vehicle software developer Oxbotica has appointed a new CEO to drive commercial deployment of the technology.

Gavin Jackson was previously Microsoft UK managing director, responsible for leading its enterprise commercial business, and as managing director of Amazon Web Services (AWS) oversaw all EMEA operations.

Gavin takes up the role of CEO at Oxbotica with immediate effect and will help accelerate and scale the company’s commercial deployment of its autonomous vehicle software across multiple domains.

Previous CEO Ozgur Tohumcu moved from Oxbotica in August to head up the AWS automotive team in Europe

Oxbotica is accelerating the path to mass-commercialization of autonomous mobility by partnering with category leaders in multiple fleet-operating domains. For instance, Oxbotica is developing applications of its autonomous vehicle hardware and software platform in collaboration with Ocado to automate warehouse vehicles, last-mile delivery vehicles, and kerb-to-kitchen robots. Oxbotica is also developing a Level 4 self-driving system with ZF to enable passenger shuttles in major cities around the world, as well as deploying autonomy for BP vehicle fleets in a variety of industrial domains including wind farms, solar farms, and refineries.

We are now part of a global ecosystem of world-class partners who are all collaborating to unlock the true potential of autonomy. Gavin’s résumé in the technology sector is unparalleled and he will help take Oxbotica to the next level as we continue to scale.”

Oxbotica is part of a global autonomy ecosystem with world-leading partners, and has raised total funds of around $100 million, with investors including BGF, bp ventures, Halma, HostPlus, IP Group, Tencent, Venture Science, and funds advised by Doxa Partners. Further investment was secured during 2021, from Ocado Group and ZF.
