SYSGO has expanded its RTOS real time operating system support to the i.MX 8X applications processor family from NXP.

Version 5.0 of PikeOS RTOS is included in a Board Support Package (BSP) for the i.MX 8QuadXPlus Multisensory Enablement Kit (MEK), a platform for evaluation and development on i.MX 8X processors. The i.MX 8X family is designed for critical applications in industrial automation and the automotive industry, two of the main areas of application for PikeOS.

The combination of NXP's development kit and the PikeOS 5.0 RTOS provides developers with a platform for safety-critical applications in which both functional and cyber security can be guaranteed from the ground up (Safety & Security by Design). The partitioning of the PikeOS Separation Kernel complements the comprehensive hardware virtualization of NXP i.MX 8X processors to achieve a strict separation of applications. This also supports mixed-criticality designs in which critical and non-critical applications run on the same hardware.

“SYSGO’s PikeOS 5 expands capability of NXPs popular i.MX 8X family of applications processors for the high demands of critical embedded system infrastructure in industrial automation, automotive, railway and avionics,” commented Ron Martino, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Edge Processing Business, NXP Semiconductors. “Automotive and Industrial Transportation systems can leverage the hardware separation capability and safe OS to achieve reliable systems that are critical for the safety of the users.”

PikeOS enables developers to easily implement MILS concepts (Multiple Independent Layers of Security) and has been designed to meet the particularly strict safety and security standards of the aerospace industry since its first version. With several decades of experience and comprehensive certification kits, SYSGO also supports developers in certifying their systems according to common safety and security standards such as ISO 26262 (safety for automotive industry), DO-178B (safety for avionics), IEC 61508 (international safety standard) or Common Criteria security standards.
