TSMC responds to antitrust investigation reports
On September 6 TSMC filed a declaration with the US Security Exchange Commission to clarify media reports of alleged investigations. In a statement TSMC said: “To the extent any regulatory agency requests information of TSMC, it is TSMC’s practice to respond cooperatively. As of now, TSMC has received no official request for information from any legal authority regarding the allegation.”
TSMC also filed the statement with the Taiwan Stock Exchange, Digitimes reported.
The chain of reporting of these allegations goes back from Digitimes referencing the Chinese language Apple Daily which in turn referenced an antitrust investigation agency called Mlex
The Digitimes report states that TSMC faces being investigated by the European Commission and by the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) over allegations that it has mis-used its market power to exclude rivals from the market.
Globalfoundries said in a statement: “Globalfoundries was founded to create more competition in the semiconductor foundry segment. In that context, we would support any action by regulators to ensure a fair and open competitive environment.”
