Verification update at DVCon Europe 2017: opens in 2weeks’ time
Fast approaching – at time of writing – the 2017 running of the Design and Verification Conference in Europe – DVCon – takes place in Munich on October 16th and 17th, and looks set to be the largest and most successful to date. As in previous years, the two days filled with tutorials, panels, keynotes, technical presentations, and an exhibition (with extended exhibit hours and a reception on the exhibit floor).


DVCon Europe was initiated by Accellera Systems Initiative in 2014 as the premier conference, providing a European perspective on Electronic Design Automation (EDA) standards, languages and methodologies for the design and verification of electronic systems and integrated circuits. It is modelled on DVCon US, which has bee running since 1988.


Two keynote speakers are promised for the conference. Horst Symanzik, director of integrated circuit engineering at Bosch Sensortec will talk about the processes the company uses for its consumer MEMS products. In the other keynote, Berthold Hellenthal, head of the progressive semiconductor program at Audi will consider the design and verification challenges of the automotive space.


On October 16, Symanzik will talk about the growing complexity of consumer sensor products. They now contain microcontrollers, digital signal processors, image pipelines, external components and more. At the same time, MEMS application complexity has grown significantly to include magnetic, acceleration and yaw sensors as well as micromirrors. He will talk about the changes in the design and verification methodology, which have become necessary in order to tackle the challenges of these mixed-signal designs.


On October 17, Hellenthal will argue automotive electronic systems represent the state of the art in modern electronic design. Advanced technology requirements that include machine learning are coupled with stringent methodologies for safety-critical verification. The talk will focus on this branch of semiconductor and systems design, exploring new techniques for the rapid prototyping of automotive solutions.


The European event is differentiated by a specific focus on local needs in European semiconductor and embedded system design:

- it is (embedded) systems oriented

- it has a strong AMS (analogue/mixed-signal)community both at (system-level as well as implementation level)

- and a focus on key application domains: Automotive, Aerospace and Identification: and functional safety aspects.
