All-in-One PC is powered by single Ethernet cable
Motherboard maker Sapphire Technology has teamed up with Thinlabs on a low power All-in-One PC that uses 802.3at Power-over-Ethernet (PoE+).
The use of PoE+ allows the embedded all in one PC to be powered by a single Ethernet cable that also carries the data.
The 24in display and system is based on the AMD Ryzen Embedded processor with fanless operation and touchscreen and non-touch options and is powered by the 30W supply PoE+ with a 100m standard Cat 6 Ethernet cable no longer than 100 m / 328 ft to function. The 802.3at PoE+ standard delivers up to 30 W, which powers, the complete Thinlabs solution – an All-in-One with a 24” Full HD display. Setting up the cabling for this configuration is both straightforward and swift, eliminating the need for a certified electrician. Power access can be easily achieved with either a PoE+ capable network switch or a PoE+ injector.

PoE also simplifies backup power deployment. A PoE-capable Ethernet switch connected to a sufficient uninterruptible power supply ensures continuous operation for all connected Thinlabs PCs and monitors. Sapphire has also worked on NUC mini-PC systems using AMD embedded processors that are powered by PoE+.
“This innovative solution addresses the rising demand for energy-efficient computing in industrial and business environments,” said Adrian Thompson, VP of Marketing at Sapphire Technology which is headquartered in Hong Kong, China. “Sapphire’s collaboration with Thinlabs has resulted in a cutting-edge device that not only reduces energy consumption and minimizes carbon footprint but also offers effortless deployment.”
“Thinlabs’ PoE technology can help companies achieve ESG (Environment, Social and Governance) standards and meet green building certifications such as Environmental Design (LEED) or Leadership in Energy. All of these without compromise on the computing experience provided to employees.” said JR Mundkur, CEO of Thinlabs.
“We are excited to collaborate with Sapphire and Thinlabs on the Unique Power over Ethernet Computing platform powered with AMD Ryzen Embedded processors. With impressive performance-per-power metrics, the Ryzen R-Series and V-Series embedded processors are ideal for demanding computing applications that focus on convenience while also delivering high performance and low power dissipation.” said David Rosado, Senior Product Manager, Embedded Processors Group, AMD.
Thinlabs systems with Sapphire motherboards are available now.
