The CEO of UK driverless car software developer Oxbotic has moved to run Amazon’s European automotive software business.

“We are only in the early days of the software-driven transformation reshaping the automotive industry. I am really looking forward to being in the front line, working directly with customers as they embark on their digital journeys, and helping them with their transformation efforts along the way,” said Ozgur Tohumcu.

“I  joined Oxbotica during 2019, to lead the company through its next stage of growth. Our journey in the last 2+ years took us from start-up to scale-up, completing $72m Series B investment from well-respected corporates and VC funds, and securing strategic contracts with a clear path to commercialisation. This of course was on top of navigating through a major pandemic which tested our leadership and human values on a daily basis,” he said.

The company was founded in 2014 by Oxford professors, Paul Newman and Ingmar Posner, and Newman is chief technology officer with Tony Lowe as chief operating officer. “Oxbotica’s future is bright and I hope I have been able to build on top of what already was special,” said Tohumcu.

AWS Automotive provides AI/ML, IoT, HPC, and data analytics to car makers and tier one suppliers, including BMW, VW and Scania as well as Here and Continental and electric charging company Chargepoint.
