Cherry absorbs German subsidiary into medical division

Mechanical keyboard maker Cherry is expanding into the medical and laboratory sector and by integrating Active Key GmbH which was acquired in 2021.

Active Key will become part of Cherry Digital Health GmbH, simplifying the corporate structure and branding. The subsidiary adds interface technology for the hygiene and medical, industrial, POS and office sectors.

“The change of name and rebranding of Active Key GmbH are the final steps in the integration into Cherry Digital Health and strategically important steps in the targeted further development of our products in the medical sector,” reports Gerrit Schick, Managing Director of Cherry Digital Health GmbH. “The uniform brand identity not only strengthens our portfolio, but also clearly symbolises our clear intention to further expand our role as a hardware, software and service provider.”

Active Key GmbH was founded in 2005 and since then has been offering solutions for hygienic input devices that are characterised by particularly high durability, ease of use and reliability. Chip card and magnetic card readers are also part of the portfolio.

“What began in 2021 with the integration of Active Key GmbH is now coming to a glorious conclusion with the change of name and inclusion in the Cherry brand,” said Stefan Leitz, who was previously Head of Business Development at Active Key GmbH and is now Director Global Business Development & Sales for Cherry Digital Health.

Cherry has its operational headquarters in Auerbach in Germany’s Upper Palatinate region and over 400 employees in production facilities in Auerbach, Zhuhai (China), and Vienna (Austria) as well as in various sales offices in Auerbach (Germany), Pegnitz (Germany) Munich (Germany), Landskrona (Sweden), Paris (France), Kenosha (USA), Taipei (Taiwan), and Hong Kong (China).
