Foundries’ sales falls accelerate in June
June sales at foundry TSMC were down year-on-year by 11.1 percent while for neighbour foundry United Microelectronics Corp. sales were down 23.2 percent.
TSMC’s annual fall was a deterioration from the previous month’s 4.9 percent fall. UMC’s position was only marginally down from 23.1 percent annual sales decline in May.
TSMC (Hsinchu, Taiwan) announced sales of NT$156.4 billion (about US$4.98 billion) for June. This was an 11.4 percent sequential fall. Revenue for January through June 2023 totalled NT$989.5 billion (about US$31.54 billion), a decline of 3.5 percent compared to the first six months of 2022.
UMC’s June sales were NT$19.06 billion (about US$607 million). UMC’s year-to-date sales were NT$91.45 billion (about US$3.52 billion). This figure is down 18.4 percent on the first six months of 2022.
