H-bridge motor driver for high-torque applications

Toshiba Electronics Europe has introduced an H-bridge driver for brushed DC motors in consumer and industrial applications.
The TB67H482FNG 50V/5A brushed DC motor driver simplifies integration and energy savings and is optimised for large, high torque motors. These drive applications such as air conditioning systems, printers, scanners, office automation, motorised furniture, robotics, and factory automation.
Having the constant current H-bridge driver in a single package allows for more robust voltage and current capabilities with low sleep mode power consumption. It simplifies the design integration for manufacturers as it eliminates the need for external charge pump capacitors, saving board space and reducing component count. The built-in regulator allows the motor to be driven by a single VM power supply.
The TB67H482FNG has a motor output voltage rating up to 50V and an output current rating up to 5A. It is controlled by a PHASE/ENABLE input interface and five torque setting input pins allow the motor current to be set to one of 32 levels.
The driver supports motor power supply voltages operational range from 8.2V to 44V and consumes less than 1μA (max.) in sleep mode. Motor output on-resistance (RDS(ON)) is only 0.2Ω (typ.) for both high-side and low-side (at 24V when a 2A output current is applied).
Error detection features, including overcurrent detection, thermal shutdown, under voltage lockout and error detection flag output the TB67H482FNG ensures reliable operation and system protection. It is housed in a HTSSOP28 package measuring 6.4mm × 9.7mm, offering a compact and flexible solution for a variety of motor-driven applications.
This follows the launch of two single channel H-bridge drivers earlier this month. These span 4.5 to 50V and 3.5A.
