Infineon completes first phase of Kulim 200mm SiC fab

Infineon Technologies has completed the first phase of its 200mm Silicon Carbide (SiC) power fab in Kulim, Malaysia.
Infineon plans to officially open the Kulim 3 fab module in August, with SiC production starting by the end of 2024. The fab is at the heart of a $100bn plan by the Malaysian government to boost chip production in the country.
The production tools for the SiC lines are being installed, and the fab gas been designed adaptable to the needs of newer tool types, volumes and structural requirements.
Infineon takes on Wolfspeed for world’s largest SiC fab in €5bn battle
Infineon and Wolfspeed are going head to head for the title of world’s largest 200mm fab, although planned capacity is not available form either.
This also follows the approval of funding for the world’s first integrated SiC wafer plant and volume fab by ST Microelectronics in Catania, Italy, following installation of a pilot line.
