VueReal Inc. (Waterloo, Ontario), a pioneer of a cartridge-based display assembly method it calls MicroSolid Printing, is planning on expanding its manufacturing capacity with a small-volume facility.

The company is applying its transfer system to full-colour microLED displays although Reza Chaji, CEO of VueReal, reckons the system is generic and can be applied to multiple technologies including chiplets and sensors, light sources.

Right now the company can produce between 50,000 and 100,000 displays per year in what is essentially a prototyping facility, Chaji said. The company now intends to doubling its manufacturing space, introducing a state-of-the-art production line capable of producing small volumes of displays for customers. Chaji said that the plan is to expand manufacturing capacity to 1 million displays per year.

These are typically made on Gen2 display glass substrates measuring 400mm by 300mm. “We are working on scaling up to 1850mm by 200mm,” said Chaji. VueReal has supplied microLED displays and lighting solutions to the automotive sector and now intends to expand into the consumer market, targeting wearable devices and televisions.

The pilot and small volume production line will serve as a blueprint for customers to install a MicroSolid Printing assembly unit within their own facilities. Making an analogy with the ink printing market with small-scale photocopiers and printing units sold into offices said that VueReal would become a supplier of cartridges.

VueReal said it is trying to serve two markets with microLED display assembly capability; the established display manufacturers, who are already well equipped, and smaller custom producers. The smaller customers will benefit from the turnkey end-to-end solution, allowing these companies to start production and scale as needed.
