Rohm has launched a brand for its silicon carbide (SiC) devices
The EcoSiC brand will be used for its devices with a focus on high-performance applications such as electric vehicles, industrial equipment and renewable energy systems.
This comes as Rohm ramps up production of SiC devices at its recently acquired Kunitomi Plant in Miyazaki. “This acquisition enables a fast production expansion by utilizing existing infrastructure. This way, Rohm will continue to quickly and reliably supply its customers,” said Wolfram Harnack, President at Rohm Semiconductor Europe.
The company has a number of significant supply deals in Europe for SIC power devices for electric vehicles, including Vitesco and Semikron, and supply deals with ST and Toshiba.
Rohm buys Japanese fab for SiC boost – update
The introduction of the EcoSiC brand is part of Rohm’s ‘Power Eco Family’ branding, that also includes the EcoGaN which has already been used since 2022.
SiC devices enable higher switching frequencies and lower losses, leading to more efficient and compact systems.
Rohm will also add high-performance silicon products to the Eco family in the future.
