Tier One supplier Valeo is to use a silicon carbide (SiC) module from Rohm Semiconductor for its next generation of power modules for EV motor inverters.
The two will propose and optimize the modules, starting with Rohm’s 2-in-1 TRCDRIVE pack SiC molded module.
Valeo will start supplying a first series project in early 2026. Valeo and ROHM will contribute to the improvement of efficiency and downsizing of Valeo’s next generation of xEV inverters. THe deal is important as the TRCDRIVE has a unique terminal configuration to help with miniaturisation of the powertrain and providing higher efficiency.
- Rohm’s TRCDRIVE pack for significantly smaller xEV
- Rohm to accelerate 6th, 7th gen SiC devices
- Rohm launches EcoSiC brand
Valeo is broadening it range to cover the smallest powertrains for ebikes, through the mainstream passenger cars to the electric trucks. The deal combines Valeo’s expertise in mechatronics, thermal management and software development with the Rohm power modules,
The two companies have been working together since 2022, initially focusing on technical exchanges aimed at improving the performance and efficiency of the motor inverter for EVs and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs).
The deal to further refine the power electronics will provide improved cost/performance through higher energy efficiency and reducing heat generation through an optimized cooling and mechatronic integration as well as increasing overall reliability with SiC packaging.
“This partnership marks, for Valeo Power Division, a significant step forward in delivering advanced and high-efficient power electronics,” says Xavier Dupont, CEO of the Valeo Power Division. “Together, we aim to set new industry standards for high voltage inverters and accelerate the transition towards more efficient and affordable electric mobility.”
“We are pleased to support Valeo, a renowned automotive supplier, with our power semiconductors. The TRCDRIVE pack provides high power density, leading to an improved power efficiency. Together, we contribute to the development of highly efficient powertrains by fostering the collaboration with Valeo,” says Wolfram Harnack, President of Rohm Semiconductor GmbH.
