Vector taps Synopsys for digital twin tech

Vector Informatik has signed a strategic deal with Synopsys for a range of automotive software development tools, including digital twin technology.

The collaboration is aiming at the development of software defined vehicles (SDVs) with pre-integrated tool chains using Vector’s software factory expertise and the Synopsys electronics digital twins.

Initially, the collaboration aims to advance the open-source library, SIL Kit, for vehicle-level digital twins as well as integrating Vector’s MICROSAR embedded software and CANoe with Synopsys Silver and Virtualizer Development Kits (VDKs) to provide ready-to-use virtual electronic control units (vECUs) for all types of ECUs within an SDV architecture.

The technology is already being used by automotive supplier Marelli in Italy as automotive companies are under increasing pressure to transition software development from sequential design to agile and continuous development flows.

This transition is critical to address increasing complexity, support more vehicle platforms and variants, mitigate the limitations of physical test benches, and simplify collaboration with suppliers. This increasing complexity along with frictions within current automotive software toolchains and processes require highly automated software development flows.
