Medias24, a Moroccan news website that reports in French, said ST is planning for an inauguration ceremony "very soon" to be attended by ST CEO Jean-Marc Chery.
Moulay Hafid Elalamy, the Minister of Industry, Trade, & New Technologies within the Moroccan government had previously announced that ST had won a contract from Tesla to manufacture what he called "the brain of the Tesla."
Although the report does not make it clear it is likely that the Bouskoura production line will be a back-end of line (BEOL) manufacturing line to produce either monolithic components or multi-die modules for Tesla. According to another report the Bouskoura plan began some initial production for Tesla in June 2021 using the existing facilities.
ST has started shipping automotive MCUs with phase change memory as a non-volatile memory. It has operated a packaging facility in Bouskoura for more than 20 years.
With the supply chain problems faced by automotive companies in recent months it is likely that Tesla and others are increasingly prepared to pay in advance to gain guaranteed production volumes.
