Andes core wins control slot in Rivos’ RISC-V SoC
RISC-V chip and software developer Rivos Inc. (Santa Clara, Calif.) has licensed a RISC-V core IP from Andes Technology Co. Ltd. (Hsinchu, Taiwan).
The NX45 core is a 64-bit in-order dual-issue 8-stage pipeline CPU that will be used for control functions in Rivos chips, Andes said.
Rivos was founded in 2021 by industry veterans from Google, Intel, Apple, and PA-Semi and is looking to develop full open-source stack secure server based on its own internally-developed RISC-V SoC. The Andes NX45 RISC-V processor has been selected to run control and scheduling for several key functions in Rivos’ SoC.
Rivos recently raised over US$250 million in an oversubscribed series A-3 funding round to enable the company to tape out its first silicon product, expand manufacturing operations, and scale platform hardware and software engineering efforts.

“After evaluating several leading RISC-V cores, the Andes NX45 stood out as the only core that passed our proprietary verification process with zero bugs. Its robust configuration options and ease of integration made it the clear choice as our 64-bit control core,” said Belli Kuttanna, co-founder and CTO at Rivos, in a statement issued by Andes.
