IT consultancy looks to custom chips with InSemi buy
Indian IT consultancy Infosys is to acquire leading semiconductor design services provider InSemi to accelerate its ‘chip-to-cloud’ strategy.
Infosys says strategic investment demonstrates a commitment to the semiconductor ecosystem and strengthens its expertise in engineering R&D services in India. This comes as the Indian government is stimulating wafer fabs in the country for silicon as well as research and packaging.
The deal will help accelerate the Chip-to-Cloud strategy at Infosys by bringing niche design skills at scale. This will also give InSemi in Bengaluru, India, access to existing investments in AI/Automation platforms and industry partnerships to provide end-to-end product development for clients.
Founded in 2013, InSemi has over 900 staff and offers end-to-end semiconductor design services with expertise across electronic design, platform design, automation, embedded and software technologies. This includes RTL & ASIC Design, Physical Design, STA, Verification, DFT, Circuit Design & Layout, FPGA, Foundation IP design, PSV, and Emulation with designs down to 5nm.
In 2020 InSemi acquired Ambit Semiconductor, Semtosys and GateLength Technologies for design skills.
