Smart glasses display startup raises $33m
The $33m (€28.5m) Series-B round was led by Atlantic Bridge alongside new investors CCB Trust and Flashpoint. All existing investors including Lifeline Ventures, VTT Ventures, Finnish Industry Investment and 3M Ventures participated in this round, bringing the total funding to date to $50m (€43m).
The company spun out of research lab VTT in 2015 To commercialise an ultra-thin waveguide technology and is part of the LaSAR Alliance on laser-based AR displays. It has 43 granted or pending patent families and the technology is currently being integrated into a number of consumer products under development by OEM customers that are expected on the market during 2023.
“Our patented see-through display technology is the key enabler for augmented reality devices such as smart-glasses where weight, display quality and form factor are key attributes. These can be best realized by feather-weight single-layer optics which is our unique forte and we are now gearing to scale these capabilities for mass production for our customers forthcoming consumer offerings,” said Antti Sunnari, co-founder and CEO of Dispelix. “This new investment will allow us to serve more OEM customers better and faster, as their trusted and dedicated waveguide partner. The breakthroughs we are making at Dispelix will fundamentally change the way nanophotonics are designed and manufactured.”
