US-Slovak processor startup Tachyum has agreed to cooperate with Cologne Chip AG on FPGAs and high-performance computing.

Tachyum has been developing a 5nm ‘universal’ processor called Prodigy but fell out with intellectual property supplier Cadence Design Systems Inc. over failed memory and interface IP blocks (see Tachyum sues Cadence for $211 million over failed IP).

Cologne Chip is a long-time provider of telecommunications chipsets and IP, that branched out into FPGA manufacturing with a family of small- to medium-sized FPGAs under the name GateMate (see Low-cost European FPGA launched with IPCEI support).

The two companies have agreed to build and test HPC infrastructure based on Tachyum chips and reference architecture and FPGAs and AI chips from Cologne Chip.

MoU

In a memorandum of understanding (MoU) the two companies also agreed to collaborate on a range of technologies including quantum computing, hydrogen fuel, materials, biosciences and green energy. This would be done by applying AI and transferring the findings into industrial applications, the company said.

“By combining Cologne Chip’s FPGA/AI products with the Prodigy Universal Processor, we are able to offer an excellent match to customers with complete coverage of market requirements for HPC and AI from high-end to low-end elements,” said Robert Cisar, business development manager of Tachyum, in a statement.

No timeline indication was given as to when the results of working together would be seen.
