The new vernture, Daimler Truck Fuel Cell GmbH & Co. KG, will be led by Andreas Gorbach (45) and Christian Mohrdieck (60). Both have extensive experience with conventional and alternative drive systems, especially fuel cell systems.

Since the beginning of May this year, Gorbach has held a management position with overall responsibility for all fuel cell issues at Daimler Truck AG. In his new additional position as CEO of Daimler Truck Fuel Cell GmbH & Co. KG, he will continue this task. Prof. Dr. Christian Mohrdieck has been head of fuel cell development at the Daimler Group since 2003 and is Managing Director of the current fuel cell development unit Mercedes-Benz Fuel Cell GmbH, which will be assigned to the newly founded subsidiary.

Daimler Truck last month concluded a preliminary agreement with the Volvo Group to establish a joint venture for the development, production and marketing of fuel cell systems ready for series production for use in heavy-duty commercial vehicles and similar applications. This also includes stationary applications, for example in the area of emergency power generators.

As soon as the necessary approvals have been obtained from the antitrust authorities, the newly founded Daimler Truck Fuel Cell GmbH & Co. KG will be transferred to this planned joint venture. The Volvo Group will acquire 50 percent of the company for this purpose. Daimler Truck AG and the Volvo Group plan to start series production of heavy fuel cell commercial vehicles for demanding and heavy-duty long-distance haulage in the second half of the decade.
