OxVent to make its low cost ventilator in India
OxVent in the UK is to supply its low cost ventilator to India with local manufacturing

UK ventilator designer OxVent has signed an agreement with JRG Healthcare in Delhi for a simple, robust ventilator to be added to JRG’s product range. JRG will also provide OxVent with a loan facility and Smith + Nephew will also provide support for the manufacturing in India to help build local ventilator manufacturing to strengthen the healthcare infrastructure.

OxVent, a collaboration between the University of Oxford and Kings College London, developed a low cost ventilator for the UK market during the peak of the pandemic last year as part of the Ventilator Challenge, with manufacturing in Hull. This was submitted to the UK’s medical agency the MHRA for approval last April but like other systems from Dyson and TTP was never needed.

“OxVent is proud to be partnering with JRG Healthcare, providing wrap-around support for new ventilator manufacture,” said Peter Phillips, CEO of OxVent.

The company is currently raising £280,00 via the EquitySpark crowd funding platform for further development and support manufacturing in ‘low resource’ countries around the world. India has been badly hit by a second wave of Covid-19 infections with over 400,000 cases a day and over 4000 daily deaths, coupled with sever shortages of oxygen.
