Joint venture for UK scooter with solid state battery

India’s leading electric 2-wheeler maker has announced a joint venture with Pragmatic Design Solutions (PDSL) in the UK that is developing a scooter with solid state batteries.

The solid state battery gives the Epluto electric scooter from Pure EV and PDSL a range of 250km with fast charging and an AI-based power-train for user-friendly troubleshooting. The development has begun for a  launch early in 2025.

PDSL develops automotive technology for Jaguar Land Rover, Aston Martin, Volkswagen, Bentley, Lotus, McLaren, Rivian, VInFast, Polestar, Volta Trucks, Panasonic and LG.

The joint venture with Pure plans to raise $£30 to £40m € and will be based at the Coventry University Technology Park in UK. Coventry and the wider West Midlands region is known as a world leading automotive hub including for electric vehicle (EV) technology.

Pure EV is headquartered in Hyderabad, India, and has a portfolio of 120+ IP filings. It has successfully distributed over 70,000 vehicles through a network of 150+ outlets worldwide and has a 25% market share in the Indian EV motorcycle segment within just one year of launch. The joint venture with PDSL is a key move for its global expansion.
