The processor has a combination of CPU, GPU and image processing fabrics that can deliver extremely high-performance processing and vision acceleration in a safe and secure manner. This combination of technologies makes the S32V234 ideal for applications such as ADAS, front camera systems, pedestrian and object recognition, surround view, and machine learning. The device is powered by four 1GHz Arm Cortex-A53 cores, a NEON coprocessor and an Arm Cortex-M4 CPU. The Cortex-M4 provides the link between the processor and the outside world.

That processing power is supported by 4 MBytes RAM and two 32-bit DRAM controllers with LPDDR2/DDR3/DDR3L and ECC support. Dual APEX-2 accelerators provide the processor with image processing and vision capabilities, and a GC3000 3D GPU is included for surround-view applications. Connectivity options include Gigabit Ethernet, Zipwire, dual CAN-FD, dual-channel FlexRay, and PCI Express (PCIe).

Safety and security is a huge concern for automotive developers, and the S32V234 provides on-the-fly AES decryption engine (OTFAD) and a Cryptographic Service Engine (CSE) that meets Secure Hardware Extension (SHE) protocol specifications. The processor also has automotive safety compliance capabilities developed through NXP’s SafeAssure program, which helps manufacturers achieve system compliance with ISO 26262 and IEC 61508 functional safety standards.
