Omnivision opens Belgian R&D centre
Omnivision has opened a research centre in Belgium as part of a re-brand at CES 2022 that sees it expanding its range of products from image sensors
The R&D centre in Mechelen, Belgium, is alongside a new centre in Irvine, California for the Chinese-owned company. The company also now offers analog solutions, along with touch & display technologies.
“Today at CES we are celebrating the dawn of a new Omnivision ―an organization that can now deliver many more products to better serve our customers and grow our serviceable available market,” said Michael Wu, senior vice president of global sales and marketing. “Ultimately, our aspiration is to seamlessly integrate humans and the digital world for a brighter future, as one of the most recognizable semiconductor brands in the world. As a new Omnivision, we look forward to expanding our product offerings in analog and touch & display, and supporting our mission to empower lives through innovative technology solutions, maximizing the benefits of human/device interactions.”

At CES 2022, the company also launched the first 200MP resolution image sensor, the OVB0B, with the world’s smallest 0.61-micron pixel size for high end smartphones, as well as the industry’s first 5MP RGB-IR global shutter image sensor for automotive in-cabin monitoring and the first 3MP SoC for automotive cameras.
Alongside the image sensors, the company launched a full high definition 144Hz Touch and Display Driver for smartphones and worked with Seeing Machines to develop the first ASIC with an integrated signal processing pipeline and Occula neural processing unit (NPU) for driver and occupant monitoring.
