With, some 80 per cent of mobile phone traffic now originating from within buildings and the rapid growth of data applications, the need to have strong coverage levels for 3G and 4G services is greater than ever.

Available in dual-band and single-band variants, the units can provide a ‘tri’ and ‘quad’ band combination if required. European frequency bands available include 900MHz, 1800MHz, 2100MHz, and 2600MHz but any combination of 2G, 3G or 4G services can be run on any band thanks to Axell’s digital filtering capability.

The company claims that, with further spectrum allocation at a premium, many operators are now looking to ‘re-farm’ existing frequency bands, running different services within one band (e.g. GSM and UMTS in the 900MHz band). The DIGI mini fully supports this application without the cost associated with deploying multiple repeaters.

The DIGI mini provides 20dBm per band output power providing coverage in buildings up to 2,500 square metres. It provides up to 6 sub-band filtering per unit and contains an ‘oscillation protection’ algorithm, meaning the repeater will never go into oscillation.

The DIGI mini can be installed simply on a wall, or in a rack, and it can also be controlled using simple auto configuration settings accessed via a web interface, it can be activated and fully functional within a few minutes. For integration into a NOC (network operations centre) SNMP support is also provided. Connection to the device is via Ethernet or via an optional wireless modem.
