Dutch quantum cluster petitions for support

Quantum technology firms in the Netherlands are petitioning their government to ensure ongoing support.

Recent shifts in the Dutch political landscape have raised valid concerns about the prioritization of strategic investments in future competitiveness says Quantum Delta NL, which has positioned the Netherlands as a global leader in quantum and photonics.

This follows the snap election in November last year where the populist Party for Freedom (PVV), led by Geert Wilders, won 37 seats in the 150-seat House of Representatives, becoming the largest party for the first time. The PVV is still trying to form a coalition government.

Dutch researchers have been working on quantum technologies for many years, with early work on quantum processors, quantum sensors and quantum networking over the last decade.

In these circumstances, preserving and fortifying investments in quantum and other technology areas is crucial to overcoming worldwide challenges such as climate, health, and security say the quantum companies. Quantum Delta NL points to early public investments in nanolithography that created ASML as a world-leading company.

Quantum Delta NL and PhotonDelta have set up a petition and sent a letter to Dutch MPs. They want to maintain the current and planned investments from the National Growth fund and sustain investments in programs dedicated to talent development and retention.

The petition is at https://nationaalgroeifonds.petities.nl/
