JLT launches software division for IoT services

JLT Software Solutions will be a wholly owned subsidiary dedicated to software development alongside its Windows and Android rugged computer systems. JLT will be able to use existing sensor technology and features in its latest vehicle-mount computers for mobile device fleet management and IoT (Internet of Things) solutions to create more efficient workflows, minimize downtime and increase safety.

“JLT’s ambition is to grow profitably and faster than the rest of the market. We follow a growth strategy where one of three pillars is the creation of comprehensive solutions with increased service content,” said Per Holmberg, CEO of JLT Mobile Computers.

JLT delivered its first advance JLT6012A Android-based rugged computer to a customer last month and started a limited pilot program.

“As one of the pioneers in bringing Android to modern vehicle‑mount computers, JLT is perfectly positioned in enabling customers to have a common Android operating system and software base that includes both handheld computers and vehicle‑mount terminals,” said Holmberg. “Combining our new JLT6012A computer with Android 10 will greatly simplify operation, maintenance and device management, and that leads to increased efficiency and productivity within warehouses and other logistics environments.”

The 12in JLT6012A logistics vehicle‑mount computer is based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 octa-core processor running Android 10. JLT sees this as a flexible platform for building mobile IT and IoT systems, including hardware, software and services. “A key to creating a scalable service offering is the development of flexible software solutions,” said Holmberg. “Since JLT’s current expertise is mainly in hardware development, I am both proud and happy to welcome Andreas Nivard to JLT, who will be leading our new business venture with his solid experience in the software industry.”

Nivard will start as General Manager of the new software venture on March 1. Over the next few years, JLT aims to grow the complementary software business by recruiting a strong development team with software expertise. Nivard joins JLT from TietoEVRY, a Nordic IT software and service company, as well as Visma, Sweden’s largest supplier of administrative software, which highlights the enterprise focus for the group. Holmberg says the company has also already started recruitment of a software architect, who together with Andreas will lay the foundation for the new business venture.
